“I didn't want to be a burden”

Tabassum had carried the same dream since SSC: higher studies abroad, for better opportunities.

But when the time finally came, one worry sat above all the others. Not the visa. Not the interview. The money.

“At this age, I didn't want to be a burden on my family.”

So she set herself a harder target than just getting admitted. She wanted a university where her profile could win a scholarship big enough that tuition would never become a weight on her family. She found it in Rome. And the journey there, in her words, had its ups and downs.

Why did Tabassum choose Italy for her master's?

Tabassum chose Italy because she believed her profile could win a scholarship there, removing the pressure of high tuition fees from her and her family.

Three other reasons sealed it. Italy has many old and traditional universities. Italian culture had long attracted her. And her long-term plan, a PhD after her master's, needed a country with strong research.

She didn't take that last point on trust. She checked the research background of the faculty and professors herself, and concluded that this education system would support her future plans.

Why did she choose the University of Rome Tor Vergata?

Tabassum chose the University of Rome Tor Vergata because its Master's in ICT and Internet Engineering builds directly on her Software Engineering degree.

The programme is a two-year, 120-credit master's (class LM-27) taught entirely in English at the university's School of Engineering. It focuses on designing, developing and managing secure systems for communication and information processing. Admission is open access with curricular requirements, assessed on the applicant's background in subjects such as electronics engineering or computer science.

Tor Vergata is a public research university founded in 1982 in south-eastern Rome. Its School of Engineering sits on a 600-hectare campus. See Tor Vergata's fees and requirements.

The hard part

What made Tabassum's case difficult?

Tabassum's case was difficult because she needed more than an admission. She needed everything to line up at once.

  1. The scholarship had to be big enough

Studying abroad only made sense for her if tuition would not fall on her family.

  2. Guidance from admission to visa

After graduating, she knew she wanted to go abroad, but not how to move from application to offer letter to embassy.

  3. Documents to the embassy checklist

An Italy student visa file is checked line by line against the Italian Embassy's own checklist.

  4. The interview

It was her first student visa interview, with her whole plan riding on it.

How did Sunrise Study Abroad help Tabassum?

Sunrise Study Abroad guided Tabassum from her first counselling session to her visa, in this order:

  1. Counselling and a clear plan

After her graduation in early 2026, Mukta Sultana counselled her on how to proceed and which documents she would need.

  2. Admission

She received her offer letter from the University of Rome Tor Vergata for ICT and Internet Engineering, and confirmed her admission.

  3. Visa documents to the embassy checklist

Sunrise Study Abroad helped her prepare every document according to the Italian Embassy's student visa checklist, from start to finish.

  4. File submission

She submitted her visa file on her allocated appointment date.

  5. Interview masterclass

About 20 days later, her interview call arrived. Sunrise Study Abroad gave her what she calls a masterclass on the entire interview process, with complete A-to-Z guidance.

  6. Visa

The interview went very well. Two days later, she received the message to collect her passport, and collected her Italian student visa from the Embassy of Italy.

“Many, many thanks to [Sunrise] for helping me with everything from start to finish.”
