The offer she had to let go
Sathi had already done the hard part once. She sat an entrance exam, earned a place at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and held an offer for a January start in Finland.
Then it slipped away. Not because of her grades, her English or her documents, but because of a border she needed to cross first.
Finland has no VFS centre in Bangladesh, so every applicant must travel to VFS New Delhi. Sathi couldn't get there in time. Her Indian visa became the problem, and her January start was gone.
Most applicants would have read that as a sign to stop. Sathi read it as a chance to aim higher. She applied again for the September session, this time for the subject she had always wanted: nursing.
Why did Sathi choose nursing in Finland?
Sathi chose nursing because it was her dream subject, and Finland because it offers a nursing degree built around real clinical work.
Her first offer had been in a different field. When it fell through, she used the second chance to move into the subject she actually wanted to study and build a career in.
What is the Bachelor of Health Care in Nursing at Xamk?
The Bachelor of Health Care in Nursing at Xamk is a full-time degree of about three and a half years on the Kotka or Savonlinna campus. About one third of the studies is clinical practice in primary health care, specialised health care and the private sector.
Studies start mostly in English, and teaching in Finnish gradually increases. Students learn Finnish from their own level, aiming for B2–C1 by graduation, which matters for working as a nurse in Finland. Xamk lists the tuition fee as €10,700 per academic year for students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. See the programme on Xamk's website ↗
