How Moksedul kept his Finland dream alive through two years of Indian visa rejections

Moksedul Haqu Milon from Comilla is going to Finland for a Bachelor of Engineering in Bioproduct Technology at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk), with a 10% early bird scholarship, starting in January 2027. He applied in 2024, but the Indian visa he needed to reach VFS New Delhi was rejected several times without a reason. In 2026 he finally got it, submitted his file and collected his Finland residence permit card.

The offer was never the problem

By 2024, Moksedul had everything a Finland applicant hopes for. An offer letter. His tuition fee paid. A scholarship secured.

What he didn't have was a way to reach the embassy.

Finland has no VFS centre in Bangladesh, so his file had to be submitted in New Delhi. And every time he applied for an Indian visa, the answer was the same: rejected. No explanation. Not once, but several times.

Most applicants would have given up. Moksedul waited two years. In 2026, he walked out of VFS Global holding his Finland residence permit card.

Where did Moksedul's Finland plan begin?

Moksedul's plan began after he passed HSC in 2021, when he and his family decided he should pursue higher education abroad. Despite a study gap along the way, he chose Finland.

He researched consultancies online and on Facebook, and kept coming across Sunrise. His brother-in-law then recommended Sunrise directly, saying the team worked very well with students at every step. That recommendation settled it.

Why did he choose Finland?

Moksedul chose Finland for its environment, its quality of life and its highly developed education system.

Finland was ranked the world's happiest country for the ninth year in a row in the 2026 World Happiness Report. For Moksedul, that reputation, together with the strength of Finnish education, made it the right country for his studies.

Why did he choose Xamk and Bioproduct Technology?

Moksedul chose Bioproduct Technology because it connects engineering with the environment, the field he wants to work in for his country.

Xamk's Bachelor of Engineering in Bioproduct Technology is a four-year, full-time degree on the Savonlinna campus. It focuses on process technology, especially using wood raw material to make a wide range of products in a circular economy. Students learn on campus, in Xamk's Fibre Laboratory research unit and at leading companies in the field, including practical training and thesis work. Xamk has campuses in Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli and Savonlinna. See the programme on Xamk's website ↗

The hard part

What made Moksedul's case difficult?

Moksedul's case was difficult because the hardest obstacle had nothing to do with his university application.

  1. Indian visa rejections

To submit his Finland file at VFS New Delhi, he needed an Indian visa. From 2024 onwards it was rejected several times, with no reason given.

  2. Two years of waiting

With his offer secured and tuition paid, he had to keep his plan alive from 2024 until 2026.

  3. Sponsor and bank documents

Like every Finland applicant, he had to present sponsor and bank statement documents that met the requirements.

  4. Self-doubt

In his own words, he often felt insecure about whether the visa would ever happen.

How did Sunrise Study Abroad help Moksedul?

Sunrise Study Abroad guided Moksedul from his first application to his residence permit, in this order:

  1. Application and offer

Sunrise Study Abroad handled his Finland application in 2024, from opening his file to the offer from Xamk.

  2. Early bird scholarship

After his offer, he had about 15 to 20 days to pay his tuition fee. Paying within that window earned him Xamk's 10% early bird scholarship, which Xamk describes as a 10% discount on the tuition fee paid upon admission.

  3. Sponsor and bank statement guidance

The team guided him on how to prepare his bank statement and sponsor documents, and which approach would work best.

  4. Reworking the Indian visa file

After repeated rejections, Sunrise Study Abroad worked on his file again. In 2026 he finally obtained his Indian visa and submitted his Finland file at VFS New Delhi.

  5. Keeping him going

Whenever he felt insecure, he says, the team told him to stick with it: he had waited this many years, and success would come.

“They completed every single thing perfectly, from opening my file to submission.”

After his submission, Moksedul says he felt confident: because he had submitted through Sunrise Study Abroad, he believed his visa would be secured. It was.

What is next for Moksedul?

Moksedul begins his bachelor's at Xamk in January 2027 and plans to complete a master's in Finland afterwards. Then he wants to come home. He chose an environment-related subject because, as he puts it, Bangladesh's environment is in a very poor state, and he wants to return and work on it for his country.

What if my Indian visa is rejected for a Finland student visa appointment?

A rejection does not have to end your Finland plan. Moksedul's Indian visa was rejected several times from 2024, but after his file was reworked he obtained it in 2026 and submitted his Finland application at VFS New Delhi. Expect delays, and keep your offer and documents current.

Do Bangladeshi students have to go to India for a Finland student visa?

Yes. Finland has no VFS centre in Bangladesh, so applicants verify their identity and documents at VFS New Delhi. That means you need a valid Indian visa before your appointment.

What is the Xamk early bird scholarship?

The Xamk early bird scholarship is a 10% discount on the tuition fee paid upon admission. Under Xamk's current scheme, you must accept your study place within 7 days and pay within 21 days of the admission notice; for a January intake it applies to the spring semester fee. Availability and exact deadlines are stated in each offer of admission.

How much is the tuition fee for Bioproduct Technology at Xamk?

Xamk lists the tuition fee for non-EU/EEA students as about €10,700 per academic year for this bachelor's. Fees can change each year, so check Xamk's current fee page before you apply.

Where is Bioproduct Technology taught at Xamk?

It is taught on Xamk's Savonlinna campus, in the Fibre Laboratory research unit and at companies in the field. The full-time degree takes four years and can be completed in a minimum of three.

Can I study in Finland after HSC with a study gap?

Yes. Moksedul passed HSC in 2021, had a study gap and was still admitted to a bachelor's at Xamk. Explain any gap clearly in your application, with supporting documents.

Is Finland the happiest country in the world?

Yes. Finland was ranked the world's happiest country for the ninth year in a row in the 2026 World Happiness Report.
